Take a Break, Have O2!
Eng. Wassim El-haj, Acting Publishing House Manager, e-TQM College
You know those days, weeks, or maybe even months when you just feel like you have lost all your motivation? It seems you cannot gather up any positive energy, any courage, any confidence or any drive?
It's not that you do not want to; it is just that you CANNOT!
It does not mean you are a failure; it is simply a sign that you are growing (maybe a bit too much). People like you and me that have a committed amount of energy focused on personal growth need to remember to stop growing for a second sometimes.
Yes, STOP growing!
Along our journey of self-awareness if we never take time to combine and incorporate all of the changes and growth we go through, we never get that sense of balance. Our brains and cells need time on a physical level to "learn" how to process all the new thoughts and experiences and how they "make sense" in our lives. (If you did some reading into neurology you will know what I am talking about).
In simple words, imagine you are walking through a dense forest. Can you see how difficult it is to cross it the first time with huge trees, thick grass and intensive combination of plants surrounding you?
But if you go through the same path day after day the resistance will lower and you will be creating a path-way that will become larger and larger until it becomes a track!!
(A very nice explanation can be found on this website: http://www.thethinkingbusiness.co.uk/brain_tour_habits.html).
We never give ourselves the chance to let the new growth become a full part of who we are because we're so busy on becoming "better" that we immediately jump to the next task.
That is NOT a good thing.
Allah tasketh not a soul beyond its scope. For it (is only) that which it hath earned, and against it (only) that which it hath deserved.(The Holy Quran, Sura Al-Baqara, Verse 285).
There is a 90% probability you will lose the results you gained from your personal growth efforts if the new knowledge and experiences did not become a habit. Persistence is the key word (it is with time and determination new paths will be created).
The goal is to re-create yourself and your life in a way that serves you. ”Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” I came across this wonderful quote by G. Bernard Shaw a few weeks back and it changed the way I am walking through my journey of self-awareness.
Read it more than once and take your time to absorb its meaning:
”Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself!”
It is not about how much you can do in the shortest amount of time, I do not know about you but my brain has been working overtime trying to cope with the huge amount of knowledge and the great leap of change I have experienced in the last 4 years.
I never stopped learning and attaining knowledge and because of that I somehow lost sight of what I have accomplished and where I was heading.
Take time to Breath!!
YES… you owe yourself time to inhale stress-less oxygen. Take time to breath, to look at and enjoy what you have accomplished. Take time to look ahead and recognize where you are heading and what new goals you want to reap.
After all you are the captain of your own ship and you need a clear head to effectively steer it!
