Program description

From a cottage industry to a profession, the transformation of educational technology requires nowadays dedicated specialists whose technical background will allow them to act as full fledge players in the rapidly evolving production of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) and interactive media educational integration.

The MSc IET is a Master of Science program, with a strong technical orientation, outcomes and expectations. The MSc IET answers the needs of the rapidly evolving technology market, requiring increased specialisation and capacity to design\develop targeted educational products and learning environments. The MSc IET aims at training dedicated specialists who will participate in the rapidly evolving production of virtual learning environments and interactive media. 

Program Goals

The Interactive Educational Technology Program has selected the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE) Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS) as its goals. The six standards are reflected in the following goals:

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts, and of various strategies for the creation of online communities.
  • Plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology.
  • Implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning.
  • Apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strat-egies
  • Use technology to enhance  productivity and professional practice.
  • Understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of tech-nology in schools and apply those principles in practice.
  • Examine several models of instruction for building effective teaching practice to meet diverse learning needs.

Program Outcomes

After completion of the program, the students should be able to:
  • Analyze the status of the current educational technology and the future of technology in education and e-learning.
  • Assess the impact of the technological developments on technological change, tech-nology education, and the students.
  • Design, develop and implement technology-based instructional programs.
  • Apply research tools and methods which aid in improving the practice of technology education.
  • Use various types of multimedia applications which are available to enhance classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of how to locate course materials via accessing databases and the Internet.
  • Utilize, review and evaluate educational software tools.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of online courses and programs for a target group of stu-dents in a content area.
  • Apply international technology standards for educators.

Target Audience

Learners with a first degree in computing, information systems, web/software development, infographics, as well as degree holders working as programmers, web/multimedia developers, systems ana-lysts/systems, database specialists, and designers for multimedia & video.

Delivery Strategy

The program is delivered using a blended learning approach designed to accommodate working individuals that brings in the benefits of face-to-face learning, online collaboration fostering interaction through the use of synchronous / asynchronous online communication tools and self-paced learning supported by web-based material, study books, pre-recorded sessions, books, etc.

Tuition Fees

The overall tuition fee for the MSc IET program is 72,000 AED.
